Value of family and friends - Serving together as a family to help other families in Memphis has been priceless. I have learned to appreciate my family and our time together. My family was very appreciative of my digital performance.

Diversity - Experiencing student life at an IB world school, reading about black ballerinas, attending international festivals, and hosting workshops for special needs classes has increased my cultural awareness and sense of belonging by 50%.  

​

Self-improvement - Earning over 100 service and volunteer hours within a 12-month period has been a self-improvement experience.  In order to be a ballet and tap dance assistant, I had to educate myself on tap dancing before volunteering. I also had to learn Dance Robotics to host workshops as the Shelby County 4-H STEM Ambassador.  I increased my knowledge of healthy habits by 50% by attending Healthy Living Ambassador  meetings and trainings. Serving on the planning committee increased my self confidence and leadership skills.

Leadership

Understanding of self- I have a great understanding of self and developed a more positive self-concept.  I can also identify who and what influences myself concept and avoid negative influences.  I recognize that I value family, 4-H, serving and performing arts.

Communication -I increased my communication skills by 30% by attending planning committee meetings, speaking clearly, helping others with tasks, and creating content for SRTLC social media. I also provided clear and precise instructions for the All Stars Candyland workshop. 

​

Learning to learn in Different ways - I had more learn by doing experiences such as leading a workshop at SRTLC, attending Bates Dance Festival, The Juilliard Dance Experience and more. These hands-on activities reinforce what I learned from reading and increased learning by 50%.

Resilience - being able to receive constructive criticism is important in the arts industry. Viewing rejection as a learning opportunity helps me focus and develop key life skills.

Stamina -Rehearsing 40+ hours per week requires stamina and nutrition.  I have to eat healthy, sleep well, and recover to have the energy to perform. 

​

Teamwork - performing with 30 POM dancers and 25 ballerinas requires teamwork.  Whether I am helping another dancer with hair, costume, or make-up, it is all to help the team perform together as one.
